Online Therapy in Maryland & Virginia

Convenient & Effective

Telehealth

Telehealth has gained popularity since the start of the pandemic.

It is the use of digital technology, via a secure and confidential video appointment from your laptop, tablet, or mobile device, to provide therapy outside the traditional office setting.

All the nuances of facial expressions and body language can be seen through video, just as they can in-person.

Telehealth is especially convenient if:

  • You need more flexibility in your schedule
  • You are seeking specialized services not provided in your area
  • You live in a remote location
  • You have limited mobility

Because of its ease of accessibility and convenience, I have found that the overwhelming majority of my clients actually prefer telehealth over the traditional office setting!

Telehealth can also save you money

There are “hidden costs” of therapy, beyond the session fee, that many do not factor into the cost of their therapy service. Telehealth can lower these costs by:

  • reducing missed time from work
  • eliminating transportation costs
  • decreasing the amount spent on child care expenses

Many of my clients have commented that in addition to the benefits noted above, they enjoy feeling more comfortable in their home, office, or car (a.k.a mobile office!) and not having to deal with parking and waiting in the reception room.

Often, this added comfort even leads to clients engaging in therapy more readily.

How should I prepare for my telehealth appointment?

Before your telehealth appointment, you will receive an email that includes a HIPAA compliant Google Meet Link, directing you to your session.

If you are using a laptop or computer, it is unnecessary to download any additional software.

If you are using a smartphone or tablet, you will need to download the Google Meet mobile app which can be accessed through the Apple Store or Google Play.

What can I do to maximize my telehealth session?

  • Do not leave other applications open during your appointment, as shared bandwidth can impact the quality of your connection.
  • Choose a secure and comfortable location that does not have additional background noise (e.g. loud pets/TV blare, etc.).
  • Schedule your appointment at a time of day where you are less likely to be interrupted or distracted.
  • To help ensure privacy and improve sound, try and have a pair of headphones available to use.
  • Use an internet connection with a minimum bandwidth of 10 MBPS.
  • Ensure your device has a webcam & microphone.
  • When possible, use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, as wired internet is generally a more stable connection.

What should I do if I didn’t receive the reminder email with the link for my appointment?

Contact your therapist so that they can resend the link through email or secure messaging.

Will my sessions be recorded?

No. It is illegal for therapists to record or store sessions without a signed consent from their clients to do so.

What are your telehealth rates?

The cost of a telehealth appointment is the same as a traditional therapy appointment. See FAQ for details.
